The objective of re.product 3 exhibition is to present examples of design solutions aiming at creating environmentally friendly products and sustainable processes.
Instead of pretending that the ideas and designs presented at the exhibition are ultimate solutions to the „green problem”, we meant to provoke public discussion on sustainable development in the world of design. Each product’s life cycle is complex and interrelated with multiple associated processes. Therefore, it is tricky to clearly state if a certain product is truly environmentally friendly. We consider those presented at the exhibition interesting attempts to achieve fully sustainable products. As curators, while selecting products for the exhibition, we based our decisions rather on a few key phenomena present in contemporary design than on scientific research on sustainability.
The re.produkt 3 exhibition is based on the 3R CONCEPT, defining three basic principles leading to obtaining a sustainable product // re-duce, re-use, re-cycle //.
3R refers to a complete economic model, taking into account the production as well as the consumption stage. The objectives determined by the 3R CONCEPT should be fulfilled in diverse dimensions: governmental, educational, technological and financial. The particularly important one is the educational dimension as it aims at raising consumers’ awareness and thus sensitizing them to sustainable use of resources.
The selected objects were grouped into four complementary categories //
re.duce // products manufactured while paying particular attention to the limited use of energy and resources, as well as reduced waste generation. This category includes products that either integrate the latest technological achievements or are based on a simple design treatment that helps to radically reduce waste generation.
re.use // a group of products created by using objects that have lost their original function. The re.use strategy is very popular among the contemporary designers. It could be even considered the easiest tool used by designers that value the 3R principle.
re.cycle // includes objects produced with recycled materials. In many cases these are innovative materials such as biopolymers (substituting traditional plastics) created due to collaboration between scientists and designers. Here one can also find objects that incorporate into the natural cycle, which means they are fully biodegradable.
strategies // a category in which we present companies characterized by innovative and sustainable approach to production as well as remarkable internal policy.
Re.product 3 is an extension of the previous editions of re.product exhibition - the first one, organized by SPOT. Foundation in Poznań in autumn 2009 and the second one, re.produkt 2 organized by the Institute of Industrial Design within Gdynia Design Days in 2010.
Products and strategies presented in its framework were chosen according to the same pattern used during the first re.product exhibition. Some were already shown in Poznań and Gdynia, others will be exhibited for the first time. Altogether, the exhibition presents over 60 objects designed by creative minds from Europe, Asia and North America, as well as strategies of 6 selected companies.

The exhibition was created as part of the kay project Design your Profit. The inprovement of the competitiveness of enterprises through the application of design (produt and process innovation), conducted by the Institute of Industrial Design.
